Ana de Lara Ana de Lara studied video production at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School and further honed her skills through workshops at CineVic, a co-op of independent filmmakers in Victoria, BC, Canada. Her first film, In Control, premiered in Toronto at the 2008 Commffest, where it won the Jury Prize for Best Children’s Film. It screened internationally at prominent festivals, including the 2009 Rhode Island Independent Film Festival and the 2009 DC Independent Film Festival. De Lara’s next project was an anti-racism visual poem titled First Winter Last. It won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Canadian Fiction in the CBC Radio Canada International Migrations Competition. It screened at the 2008 Montreal World Film Festival and the 2009 Women in Film and Video Festival (Vancouver, BC), among others. Near Silence is de Lara’s latest and most powerful film. She produced it with the financial support of both the BC Arts Council and the National Film Board. It was shortlisted in the top 3 finalists for the 2010 Lindalee Tracey Award. De Lara has established herself as a visually creative filmmaker and a poetic storyteller. She is constantly writing and working on new projects in her hometown, Victoria, BC. |
